Challenge Course Facilitator Job Description
Part time positions with varying compensation depending on experience available year round.

Purpose: The facilitator is employed by Westminster Woods to set up, facilitate, and take down each element on the course according to the Coordinator's requests and participants' needs.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Group Management

  • explanation of all activities
  • responsible for inclusion of all members of entire group
  • maintain control of group
  • leadership of debriefing and closure for each element

Responsible for physical safety of participants

  • awareness of all risks involved
  • double check all buckles of harnesses and helmets
  • take action in an emergency or accidents

Responsible for emotional safety of participant

  • awareness of emotional needs of individuals
  • verbally encourage and affirm all participants
  • awareness of participant fears and proper response

High and Low Ropes course Elements

  • inspection of all equipment and program areas
  • set up and double check elements
  • evaluation of established practices
  • report any damaged equipment
  • overall knowledge of necessary technical skills
  • understanding of risk involved in each activity

Qualifications:

Education: High School Graduate or higher.  Bachelors Degree preferred, but not required.  First Aid and CPR certificates. Completion of Westminster Woods Challenge Course training.

Experience: Prior belay experience a must.  Ropes Course or rock-climbing experience helpful, not required. Experience working with children.  Must have prior experience in cooperative team setting.

Skills: Ability to handle unexpected circumstances, good understanding of group management, must have a developed understanding of teamwork and communication, ability to work with diverse groups of people, confidence in ability to instruct groups and enforce procedures.  Strong attention to detail.

Attitude: Safety conscious, mature, confident with heights, calm, creative, encouraging, patient, empathizing and positive.
